Alpinestars Tech-Air® MX Airbag System

Motorcycle airbag vest specifically for MX and off-road

The Alpinestars Tech-Air® MX Airbag System is an advanced airbag system specifically for motocross and supercross. Based on decades of experience in MotoGP and the Dakar Rally, as well as data from professional MX riders, it offers fast, precise, and reliable protection. Compact, autonomous, and integrated into a lightweight chest protector, it protects the upper body without restricting freedom of movement. Four selectable riding modes ensure maximum safety and versatility on every track.

Riding modes at a glance

MX Mode: For motocross/supercross, ideal for jumps, corners, and rhythm sections.
MX RACE Mode: Competition mode, active only during severe crashes to prevent accidental deployment.
ENDURO & RALLY Mode: Customizable via the Tech-Air® app, for off-road, enduro, and rally terrain with variable impact profiles.

Key features of the Tech-Air® MX

3 Riding modes: Standard MX plus two customizable “MY RIDE” modes (MX RACE, ENDURO, RALLY), configurable via app or LED display.
Crash detection: Precise airbag algorithm based on thousands of hours of MX and supercross data.
Fast protection: Airbag inflates in approx. 40 ms.
Versatility: Worn over or under MX gear; single, easily replaceable gas generator.
Battery life: Up to 30 h; 1 h quick charge for 8 h of use.
Simple activation: Automatically when closing the left buckle, deactivates when opening.
Bluetooth: Gas cartridge can be replaced by the user after deployment. The airbag system must only be sent in for service after the 6th deployment.

Functionality & Safety

The Tech-Air® MX provides comprehensive airbag protection for the shoulders, chest, and back, and delivers more than four times the impact protection of conventional passive protectors. The CE-certified airbag (Category II, EN1621-4:2013) fully deploys within 40 ms to 5 s after an impact. The system is certified for up to six deployments, provided the airbag remains undamaged. Active protection is complemented by a CE Level 1 chest and back protector with adjustable straps for a perfect fit. Three accelerometers and three gyroscopes in the ECU ensure precise crash detection even under dynamic MX conditions.

Transport & Storage

A transport lock switch on the ECU puts the system into sleep mode. This completely disconnects the battery from the system – for air travel, long-term storage, or shipping. Upon delivery, the airbag system is in shipping mode and must be activated before first use (by operating the switch).

Conclusion

The Alpinestars Tech-Air® MX is one of the most advanced airbag systems for motocross and supercross. Compact, lightweight, and autonomously integrated, it offers fast, precise protection for the upper body, shoulders, chest, and back. With its customizable riding modes, advanced sensor technology, and CE-certified protection, it is the ideal choice for off-road riders who want to combine maximum safety with unrestricted freedom of movement and versatility on any track.
